馬偕古教堂 The Dr. George Leslie Mackay’s Ancient Church

 

在1872年3月9日當馬偕抵達淡水時，此時淡水的商務已相當的繁榮，河口山嶺的優美景色讓他堅定選擇淡水作為宣教的基地，並且終生奉獻臺灣。圖中美麗的哥德式教堂，為淡水美麗的建築物之一，旁邊的街道被命名為「馬偕街」、「真理街」，此建築物已成為馬偕傳教歷史的重要史蹟之一，勉懷之。在日據時期馬偕街一帶是淡水的重心，油畫創作者經由寫實及帶有對淡水的感情的技法，將對台灣與對淡水的感情經由寫實帶入畫作中，以呈現出台灣社會早期的生活線條與台灣早期歷史的脈絡。

 

 
When Dr. Geroge Leslie Mackay arrived at Danshuei on Mar. 9, 1872, business development of Danshuei is quite prosperous at that time.  Mackay had chosen the beautiful scenery of Danshuei as the base for his mission of preach and devoted his life to Taiwan.   The beautiful Gothic Church in this painting is one of most beautiful buildings in Danshuei and had become one of the historical sites for Mackay missionary.  This oil painting artist expresses touching heart of skills for Danshuei onto the painting
